Colours Inspired by Another Artist!

My Entry into the Wellies and Galoshes Design Contest on Spoonflower this week. 25/03.2014

I wanted to give you all a sneak preview of what this Collection is going to grow into.
It started with a design I saw on Spoonflower. It's gorgeous and I fell in love with it. So What I did was asked the owner of the design, Joan Mclemore, if I could use the colours in her design.. and she said sure! whoohoo...
So the first one is Joan's design and the rest are mine:

There are 2 more designs in the works for this collection, but I'm holding them back for now. I have a great reason for this. I'm working on a 3rd that I'll post up soon. Whoohoo what fun!!

What's Happening?

I have a bit of a brag for you :-) I try to enter as many of the Challenge / Contests that Spoonflower has and over the past year I have had some great results and some not so great, but that's par for the course. Anyway the last three contest I entered, Great Barrier Reef, History of Jazz, Geodes and Gemstones, have all been good for me.

My designs have all been voted onto the TOP 50. You might say, hey that's not that good, but consider that there are several thousand designers on Spoonflower and in those there are around 500 who enter the contests. Some regularly and some only occasionally, then you realise that being in the TOP 50 is quite an achievement. :-)
A Little bit of Reef. 37 out of 228. The design on Spoonflower  on Pillows and
laptop skins / covers, tote bags etc on Society 6

All That's Jazz. 37 out of 133. On Fabric on Spoonflower. On Society 6.

Geodes a Sparkling. 41 out of 296. On Fabric on Spoonflower. On Society 6 on all sorts of products.
There are at least 12 different fabric types to be found on Spoonflower as well as Wallpaper and Stick 'n Peel Decals and a really great luxurious quality Gift Wrap in Shiny and Satin.

So that's my Brag, here's hoping I'll have more even better brags in the future :-)

This just in from Spoonflower :

Spoonflower Fabrics is a group administrator Spoonflower Fabrics says:

As you may have heard, Spoonflower's home state of North Carolina is buried under several inches of snow and ice at the moment, which has brought our little fabric factory temporarily to a grinding halt. As a result, we are postponing the Free Swatch Day that we had planned to run today and tomorrow (Feb. 13-14) for our new fabric, Modern Jersey. We will reschedule a new Free Swatch Day once we dig ourselves out. We'll go ahead and make the new fabric available today, but -- with apologies -- we're going to ask you to be patient and wait for your free swatches.

Thank you for understanding!

-The Spoonflower Crew

Block Swap

Lorrin of Enchanted Birk decided that she'd like to host a block swap. So in due course she put a notice up on the QQQ forum about it. Now, I'm not much of a quilter, because I design fabric, but I like to try my hand at it every now and then. I thought about it and decided that I could sew a reasonable looking 12 inch block, so I put my name down. It works like this:
1) send your Address to the person Below you.
2) send your Block to the person Above you.

Easy peasy.

At the end of a couple of weeks Lorrin decided that we had better get it moving so she shut off the application and even though there were only 4 of us doing it, we decided to carry on. Well it's the first time and we feel that in the future more of our members will decide to join in the fun.

This is a picture of the four blocks that were made and sent on.
Lorrin's Shop is Enchanted Birk =
Sylvie's Shop is Art On Fabric =
Kym's Shop is Fabric Fascination =
Tanya's Shop is Spool and Thimble =

I've decided that I'll make a quilt with all the blocks I get. It will be a fun special quilt, with the pieces from the QQQ team members. :^D
Cheers till next time,
